Revlon Bare It All Review

When I’m going out to a party where I know there will be a lot of pictures, I have one secret product that I always use that makes me photograph well.  Revlon’s Bare It All is a shimmer lotion that I apply on my cheekbones on top of my other makeup.  It gives me a light glow that makes every picture a good picture.  I look and feel radiant when I’m wearing Bare It All.  It is fairly heavy as far as creams go, but it’s definitely worth it.  I have the Pink-A-Boo shade, which matches my skin tone perfectly.  The bottle has lasted me years and you definitely get your money’s worth out of this product, which is inexpensive to begin with.  I highly recommend.

You can purchase Revlon’s Bare it All at any drugstore for around $7

NARS Orgasm Blush Review

NARS Blush in Orgasm has long been the most touted blush around receiving numerous rave reviews from magazines and bloggers alike.  I discovered this blush in the back of my mother’s makeup drawer last year and did my daughterly duty and sniped it.  Now, I love it.  The buttery pink blush has slight undertones of copper which looks great on warm skin tones.  There’s definitely a sheen to the blush, but by no means overpowering.  I use this pretty much every day in the spring, fall, and winter to give me a slight flushed rosy-cheek look.  I adore this blush.

You can purchase NARS Orgasm Blush from Sephora for $27

Cargo Bronzer Review

A few months ago ULTA discontinued my everyday bronzer and I just about died.  Bronzer is my only salvation of not looking like an albino.  I took a trip to my local Sephora and asked the makeup artist for a bronzer that won’t make me look like Snookie.  He handed me the Cargo Medium Bronzer.  It gives me color, but not too much that it looks unnatural.  There’s a shimmer, but just a hint, that makes it look like a sun-kissed glow.  The consistency is great, super silky and easy to apply.  The packaging has caused a lot of controversy in the reviews, but I personally love it.  I think it’s a very classic tin and very study.  I am the worst with throwing things in a big bag and having compacts break, but Cargo has definitely kept up.  The bronzer is $38, but for $39 you can buy the set which comes with a full size bronzer, kabuki brush, and adorable travel case  that looks like an international envelope.  I use this bronzer constantly and love it.  Last week, I turned my girlfriend onto the same one and she also loves it.

Aquolina Pink Sugar Sensual Body Cream

Caution:  You or the people around you may lick your face.  This lotion smells pink.  I wasn’t sure that was possible, but this lotion conquers this.  It’s sweet and light and reminds me of cotton candy and unicorns.  It may be on the edge of sickly sweet, but sometimes you need that.  Hours after wearing it, I’ll turn a certain way and get another whiff of this lotion and I’m automatically happy.  The cream is light and goes on my skin smoothly and keeps it moisturized all day.  This cream is definitely a winner.

You can purchase Aquolina Pink Sugar Sensual Body Cream at Sephora for $15

Ooh La Lift by Benefit Review

On my latest shopping spree, m best friend and I got our makeup done at the Benefit counter in the mall.  Our makeup artist, Juliana, was a blast and talked us through everything she did.  My favorite item was the under eye concealer, Ooh La Lift, she used.  Even though I was super sleep deprived, it covered my dark circles no problem.  The light pink balm can be applied on bare skin or over makeup for an instant eye lift.  It has  raspberry extracts and light-reflecting pigments for a bright undereye.  It’s easy to use and really works.  Plus, on the inside of the box it reads “moderation in excess!” which is very closely related to my own motto “nothing is ever too much.”

Ooh La Lift can be purchased at Sephora or Macys for $22

What I'm Wearing

I really love this dress and wish I wore it more often.  I never think anything will go with it, but then everything does.  This morning I had a navy cardigan on with it and it looked great, but then my silver shoes wouldn’t match the gold in the belt and black shoes wouldn’t align with the navy cardigan and the brown belt.  But the dress looked great.  I settled for the black shoes and grey cardigan and think it’s a success.  The texture in my hair was calling for low side pony, something I rarely do, but I think that goes well too.  The dress and belt are from Express, shoes are Hatties by Bakers, and the cardigan is by Zara.

Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture

Years ago, I was getting ready for a night out with a girlfriend and she sprayed me with a bit of her perfume.  It was light and floral and sweet, but not too light, too floral, or too sweet.  It smelled so good and I couldn’t get enough.  Finally, I purchased my own Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture and wear it every day.  It lasts all day and it magically gives me confidence.  Plus, how can you not love the bottle?!  Heavy glass with a crystallized bobble top, complete with a hot pink bow and a ton of bling.  I feel like a princess every time I put it on!  This is definitely one of my favorite perfumes.  I have a bad history of selecting perfumes that always get discontinued, so hopefully this one sticks *fingers crossed*

Viva La Juicy is available at Sephora for $89

What I'm Wearing

This dress is an LC Lauren Conrad dress that I got on sale at Kohls for $30 and I never seem to wear it.  I loved it at the store last summer and thought it was going to be my staple fall dress, but even now I’m just not sure.  The ruffles never seem to fall right, the chiffon material seems to dressy, the waist never looks right, adding a belt cuts the ruffles oddly, and I’m just not sure burnt orange is my color.  I combated all of my issues with this dress by adding a casual sweatshirt blazer and fun glitter sandals that match the pewter skinny belt.  The long necklace makes the ruffles seem less stifling around my boob area, and I think the result came out nicely.  I am finally happy with how this dress looks.  Now I just have to stick with this outfit or brainstorm more ways I can use this dress.

DiorShow Extase Mascara Review

A couple of months ago, I decided I was allergic to my mascara and needed a newer, higher quality one.  I read InStyle’s beauty reviews that voted DiorShow Extase was hands down the best all around.  I also found out that my roommate uses it, and it’s absolutely impossible to not be jealous of her lashes.  Now I know why!  You only have to apply one coat to get perfectly covered lashes.  It makes them super thick and almost looks liked you’re wearing falsies.  It is not flakey at all, even after hours of wear.  I’ve gone swimming several times and it never leaves me with raccoon eyes but comes off easily in the shower.  This is the best mascara I’ve ever used and I’ll probably never switch!  In this case, the price tag justifies the amazing quality of this mascara.

You can purchase DiorShow Extase at Sephora for $28

What I'm Wearing

This outfit was kind of a sad mishap of thrown together things.  My two friends told me not to buy these khaki pants, but I saw through their store-wrinkled flaws and thought they had potential, plus they were $10.  After a good wash, I think they look nice.  The white ruffled top has turned into one of my favorites, very girly and flattering, and makes me look surprisingly tan.  When I wear this blazer, I feel like Lauren Conrad, who is my style icon and I’m semi-obsessed with, but I’m not sure I like it with this outfit.  These shoes are Bakers’ Brendal and I bought them because they were bright and fun and I have nothing like them.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to like them, but I find myself reaching for them constantly.  My wardrobe is mostly neutrals and classic pieces, so punchy sandals are an easy way to brighten my outfits.

What do you think of this outfit?

How to be Polished.

I go to a business school and if you are wearing anything less than this season’s trends, you are scoffed at. When I’m at home or slumming it watching Gossip Girl, you betcha I’m in yoga pants, hoodie, and hair like Bozo. But during class days, I have to be on my game. I’ve found that adding a cardigan or blazer to anything is an instant upgrade. Designer jeans really do fit better than $20 jeans, but when there’s a heavy detail on the pocket, it looks like you stepped out of junior high. American Eagle is fairly inexpensive has really great fitting jeans. Dresses are an instant put-together move, it’s an outfit in one piece. You’ll always look polished in a structured, well-fitting LBD, I found mine at Nordstrom for $25 and I wear it at almost every business meeting.

I find heels are a pain to walk in and stick by 4 staple shoes: detailed sandals (I like the ones with the strap in the back, makes it easier to walk in than flip flops), simple black flats (my faves have sheepskin on the inside, Target $6), brown loafers, and caramel brown riding boots.

As far as makeup goes, I’m blessed with clear alabaster skin, so I stick to waterproof black eyeliner, light mascara, Burts Bees chapstick, and bronzer. It takes me max 3 minutes to do my makeup. I keep a small hairbrush with me and between classes or during bathroom breaks I wipe off any spreading eyeliner and give my hair a quick brush. I have crazy curly hair which is great for texture and throwing my hair in a pile on the top of my head, but I prefer straight hair on important days because it’s shinier and looks more polished.

When you’re on the run, go for big (but face-framing) sun glasses and a coffee cup. I don’t know why, but these accessories always seem to look good.

The most important thing is confidence. It may sound cheesy, but you can definitely tell the difference between a confident self-assured woman and a unhappy woman. Stand up straight in a mirror and tell yourself you’re beautiful, because you are!

What I'm Wearing

Today was my first day back to work after vacation and I chose to sport some elements of my latest shopping spree.  The skirt is by Native from Macy’s, the shirt is the Best Loved Tee from Express, and the sandals are Hattie by Bakers.  The boy made fun of them saying they looked like flip flops attached to ankle weights, but I wore them around Portsmouth and got a ton of compliments.  Shows what he knows.  I’m wearing my signature bow head band and pearl necklace and tennis bracelet set.

Tutorial: Sweet Tea

It’s no secret I’m addicted to caffeine.  If you catch me before my morning tea, I sincerely apologize.  Throughout the day I try to keep well hydrated, with almost exclusively caffeinated beverages.  Usually it is Diet Coke, but in the summer, I like to switch it up and go with Sweet Tea.  Maybe it’s my unexplainly hidden roots of Southern class, or maybe just because I love all things summer, especially a refreshing glass of iced cold sweet tea.  Maybe it’s because sweet tea is just so freaking easy to make.  When I’m at home, I make sun tea every morning and by the afternoon it’s ready to be poured over a glass of ice.  Since I’m living in a dorm this summer, I can’t leave a pitcher out to percolate all day, so I just boil the water instead of setting it in the sun.  All you need is a pitcher, four tea bags, and 3 tablespoons of sugar.  You can use fancy shmancy tea, but I’m a poor college kid and find that Wal-Mart brand tea is just as good as anything.

Boil water in a pot or electric kettle (I do about 1.75 L)

Pour 3 tablespoons of sugar into the pitcher (I find this is the right measurement for sweet but not too sweet)

Tie 4 tea bags together

Once the water is finished boiling, pour in a quarter of the water and mix until all the sugar is dissolved

Insert tea bags and pour the rest of the water into the pitcher

Secure the top and let cool in the refridgerater overnight

It should be ready in a couple of hours, especially if you’re pouring it over ice, but I make mine at night and drink the tea throughout the day.

This is an easy way to maximize summer enjoyment with minimum calories. J

Internship Update!- Social Media Proposal

You know you’ve got it good when you get paid for surfing Facebook and Twitter, but that’s exactly what I did last week.  I wrote a business proposal on how Culver can improve their social media presence.  I concluded that they are on par or better than most of the boarding schools and colleges in the US, but I did have a couple suggestions to improve.  They were mostly little things like changing the background on the Twitter profile, but some were substantial like adding a social media portal, similar to Carnegie Mellon’s.  I found an online article about the Top 100 Social Media Colleges and went from there.  I think my proposal turned out well and hope that Culver takes some of my advice!

My Favorite Holiday, My Favorite Weekend.

I haven’t written in this for a very long time I feel, and I truly apologize.  I’ve been uber busy, which is no excuse, but I promise to be better since I have deemed July as the month where I complete the “blog 20 times in one month” challenge of my 101 in 1001.  I spent the better part of last week frolicking around New England, my adopted homeland, for the fourth of July holiday (my favorite holiday).  Partnered with my best friends and super supportive boy, I had an absolutely perfect time.

I got my makeup done.

Did immense amounts of shopping.

Celebrated my 21st birthday (which is not until next February).

Spent some much needed time with my besties.

Walked around downtown Portsmouth, NH (my favorite town in the US).

Got a ton of compliments on my new hooded sandals, which Josh made fun of me for buying.

Almost attacked by a killer whale.

Watched the boats come in and out of the Portsmouth harbor.

Hung out with a massive anchor.

Went for a hike up a cliff.

Saw some fireworks.

Now I’m back to my other adopted homeland, Indiana, and wonder how I manage to acclimate perfectly to two such opposite places.  I can’t believe how fast summer is passing by, and also how slow summer is passing by.  I’ve been home for two months now, which has passed by in a millisecond, and have another two whole months of summer left, and how long that feels.  But I’m sure summer will finish in a flash and I will be hitting the books for my Retail Supply Chain Management concentration and Improv Acting elective.

I Failed.

I failed. I'm sorry, I'm terrible.  Lock me up and throw away the key.  Well, okay, maybe it's not that bad.  But I didn't break my promise and lost my goals.  I strayed away from 45 in 45 and spent A LOT in my no spend month.  It was disastrous.  But I totally don't regret it.  I just got back from a week long trip to the East Coast to see my wonderful beau and besties and if I wasn't so gosh darn tired, I'd tell you all about it.  But alas, you will just have to perch on the edges of your seats until tomorrow when I have enough energy to discipline my fingers to write my saga.  But I wanted to tell you that I failed you all and am very, very sorry.  I hope that in time you'll forgive me. ;]

Until tomorrow, please subscribe to my wonderful blog, and if you so desire you can follow me on twitter and even on tumblr      kthx, you're the best! :]
