What I'm Wearing..

Yesterday was the first day of class for my junior year of college, well kindof.  Technically, classes started yesterday.  But instead, I worked all day and had one class at night for "Fundamentals of Acting and Improv," so it's debatable if you count that as a class day.  Today will be difficult though, I have class straight from 9:45-5:00.  The day starts with a 2 1/2 hour Negotioations class, followed by Retailing Management and finally Strategic Problem Solving.  As Strategic Problem Solving Ends, I have to instantly appear at a kick off meeting because I am starting a consulting program where I observe a real business, discover their weak areas, and solve their problems.  After that, I can drag myself back to my room and crash.  I don't know how it's possible, but I've been here for 2days and I'm already exhausted.

To show off for my first day of non-class, I wore Express shorts, with a glitter Express tanktop and The Limited white button down.  The shoes are from Bakers.

What I'm Wearing

I really love this dress and wish I wore it more often.  I never think anything will go with it, but then everything does.  This morning I had a navy cardigan on with it and it looked great, but then my silver shoes wouldn’t match the gold in the belt and black shoes wouldn’t align with the navy cardigan and the brown belt.  But the dress looked great.  I settled for the black shoes and grey cardigan and think it’s a success.  The texture in my hair was calling for low side pony, something I rarely do, but I think that goes well too.  The dress and belt are from Express, shoes are Hatties by Bakers, and the cardigan is by Zara.

What I'm Wearing

This outfit was kind of a sad mishap of thrown together things.  My two friends told me not to buy these khaki pants, but I saw through their store-wrinkled flaws and thought they had potential, plus they were $10.  After a good wash, I think they look nice.  The white ruffled top has turned into one of my favorites, very girly and flattering, and makes me look surprisingly tan.  When I wear this blazer, I feel like Lauren Conrad, who is my style icon and I’m semi-obsessed with, but I’m not sure I like it with this outfit.  These shoes are Bakers’ Brendal and I bought them because they were bright and fun and I have nothing like them.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to like them, but I find myself reaching for them constantly.  My wardrobe is mostly neutrals and classic pieces, so punchy sandals are an easy way to brighten my outfits.

Road Trip: Day 3

Start point: Niagara Falls, Canada

End point:  Cornell University Ithaca, NY

Route: I-90 E

Stops: Thirsty Owl Winery (to see Dubie the Donkey)

Clothing:  Bass boots, Mossimo dress, Culver Girls Academy Blazer, Express belt, Four Winds necklace.

We left Niagara Falls to make the final leg of the trip to Cornell.  I went to Tim Horton's for breakfast and for the third time in a row, it's been pretty disappointing; but at least they have peppermint tea, which I am in love with.  On the way to Cornell, we stopped at one of the many wineries around the Finger Lakes to see the winery's (Thirsty Owl) pet donkey, Dubie.  Dubie apparently is famous at Cornell and I had to meet the infamous donkey.  He was surprisingly cute.  When we finally got to Cornell, we ran to my sister's award ceremony, which in typical Halpin fashion, we were late.  After we got settled into the lovely dorm-rooms-turned-hotels, we went out to dinner at Ithaca's famous Boatyard Grill, which was delicious.  Afterwards we went to an Irish Pub for drinks.  It was nice to have the entire family back together, it doesn't happen very often.

The Party Purse

I am constantly on the watch for the perfect party purse.  My criteria are: black, slim and small, must have a short shoulder strap.  I have these criteria because black matches everything, particularly since most of my party-wear is black.  I don’t want to tote some huge bag around teeny college hallways, but at the same time it must be able to fit all of my stuff.  My can’t go to parties without list includes: phone, keys and onecard, state ID, credit card, insurance card (just in case!), lip gloss, and depending on where I’m going and what they’re serving a waterbottle.  Now, I think the shoulder strap is most important.  I am not the best at keeping track of my stuff, so I like having something I can swing over my shoulder and be done with.  With a clutch, I’d set it down instantly and everything would be gone.  A wristlet can bump into my cup and clumsy me will spill it all over my dress.  And a crossboy would get in the way of dancing, not to mention terribly easy to pick-pocket.  And thus, the perfectly slim but roomy black should strap purse emerges ahead of all other handbags.  The delima?  I’m too frugal to spend $200+ on a tiny bag and too snobby to buy something a Target.  And thus, I’m stuck.  However, if I could bring myself to pay a whopping $325, I would buy this Tory Burch.

This purse is classic and could never go out of style, however I still can’t imagine blow a week’s paycheck on that teensy amount of leather.
